(EDIT 25/12/2011: I've been told the map doesn't work in 1.0.0. I don't have the time to invest in fixing this at the moment, so if you *really* want to ride the map yourself, try MCNostalgia or something similar to downgrade to Beta 1.7.3-ish.)
(EDIT 8.5hrs: Halloa there /r/Minecraft.)
Three months ago, a most joyous thing was released into the world. Yes, three months and one day ago, the Portal 2 endings were leaked, revealing to the world this beautiful piece a little too early. Shortly after that, the game and this song saw a more official release, and unless Valve are mad, Volume 3 of Songs to Test By will probably include this song in its last release.
The video is a note block rendition of 'Cara Mia', more popularly known as the Turret Opera/Aria/Orchestral Bit from Portal 2. As far as Dioptre's authenticity verification team (which comprises Fake Thomas Jefferson and the editor of the Daily Mail) are aware, this is the most faithful Minecraft recreation of the experience, apart from the minor details of one note being one semitone too sharp and the fact that everything looks a little blocky and pixelated, and should be insured for at least 50p.
The arrangement is based loosely on Sebastian Wolff et al's a cappella version, sheet music for which is available for the inexpensive price of a quick Google search.
Marglyph's TooManyItems inventory mod was used to save massive amounts of time, and was an absolute life-saver in that it was pretty refreshing but still nowhere near as good as Altoids; other than that, everything was placed and dug manually, taking advantage of cave systems and technically unavailable blocks, not to mention the odd dungeon with skeleton spawner. carlotta4th's Modified Portal texture pack was used for the filming, as many of Portal's particularly pronounced properties proved preferable (plus probably proper).
The viewer may perceive an odd change in brightness when the minecart stops in front of the turrets; this is only due to the side effects of GUI hiding in Minecraft. Rest assured that this video was recorded in one take. If you would rather pace back and forth assured, please refrain from doing so without the assistance of a Dioptre Pacing Pace Pacing Assistance Associate, as otherwise improper pacing of the pace of your pacing may result in the mutation of your right foot into a duplicate left foot.
Assembled in Minecraft Beta 1.7.2. Filmed with ScreenFlow in OS X.6.7. (C) Dioptre Productions, a subsidiary of Aperture Science. Internal designation DP-PD-07-MC-02.
