The songs for "The Rock" were written in collaboration with my 9
year old son Luke. In the middle of March, 2018, Luke was
recovering from hip surgery to correct growth problems as a result
of his cerebral palsy. While his brothers and mother were on
vacation, Luke and I had a peaceful week at home. During this
time we spent time together thinking about the musical and trying
out different styles, key signatures, and melodies for The Rock.
"Walking Slowly" came from that very peaceful place that happens when you slow down and take in the moment. It eventually found it's place in the musical in Act 2 as we build to the climax but needed a quick reminder of what was important. Likewise the choreography gave the audience some comic relief. The song turned into a group number sung in the style of Bottom from "A Mid Summer Night's Dream" or perhaps a more relevant reference for the cast: Bing Bong from "Inside Out"
This video was created using Doodly software. It was my first time experimenting with this program. All the graphics are stock image included with the program. I had fun with the simplicity of the technology and it took no time (one evening at my computer) to make. #TimSeston #WhoIAm
